One of my New Year’s resolutions is to start vlogging on You Tube. Since school took up the first half of the year I was not able to do anything about it. So today I decided to get going. I have no idea how to use my DSLR camera to shoot videos, and I feel uncertain about using my phone to make quality videos, so I decided to start by using the camera that is built into my laptop. I never used it before despite having thins pc since 2012. I had to first download an application named Youcam by Cyberlink.
I am not quite ready for prime time. I had an issue with lighting, so I definitely have to invest in some quality professional lighting for making videos. Secondly, I need to take the time to really learn how to use Youcam. If I appear confused in the screen cap above that is because I was.
Thirdly, I need to get comfortable being in front of a camera to vlog. I was self-conscious and could barely act natural. That smile in the above screen cap looks so fake. I also look stiff around the shoulders. I was trying to make a video about my new hobby which is coloring in Adult coloring books. I became fascinated with them after being introduced to Secret Garden by the All Souls Trilogy author Deborah Harkness on Facebook. Since then I have been on the hunt for other adult coloring books and now have a nice stash of my own, along with new sets of colored pencils.
Another thing that I need to do is schedule time for vlogging. It really does take a lot of work. Trying to video taping something, even a review of coloring books can take up a lot of your time. After about 45 minutes of trying to give myself a quick lesson in how to use Youcam, get the lighting right and then figure out dialog I temporarily gave up. I will be on vacation in two weeks. Since it is a “staycation” I am going to use part of the time to get better acquainted with how to make quality You Tube videos. I had better learn fast too since I sent off my application for graduate school last week for a January 2016 start.
