It seems that Xenia is nearly obsessed with this show. I say nearly because I refuse to admit to total obsession. When Calls the Heart is simply one of the best shows I have seen in a very long time. It has a huge fan base on Facebook which I am now following, and the main discussion page is so active that it has been blowing up my smart phone as well as my Facebook all day long. The fan base call ourselves “Hearties”.
A few people who watched the first season are upset because Michael Landon Jr. altered the story. Yes he did, but I think Michael Landon Jr still did a great job in relaying the essence of what Janette Oke conveys in her books about love, faith, and family values. Additionally, I always LOVE a great love story. Constable Jack Thornton and Elizabeth Thatcher are an amazing couple. Not since watching Richard Armitage and Daniella Denby-Ashe in North & South have I fallen head over heels over a fictional couple.
Erin Krakow and Daniel lissong has such fabulous on-screen chemistry that I ended up wishing they were a couple in real life.
While Elizabeth was away in Hamilton to be with her sick mother, Jack built her a proper school house, which also doubles as the church in Coal Valley. Previous to the building of a new school house Elizabeth taught her students in a saloon because it was the only place large enough to hold classes. I like to think of the new building as the school-church that love built.
Jack Thornton does have a romantic past. He was once engaged to Rosemary LeVeaux. Rosemary showed up in Coal Valley looking for Jack because she regretted breaking off their engagement two years ago in favor of becoming an actress in New York.
Rosemary can tell right away that she is too late to repair her relationship with Jack, but none the less, she is determined to try to make him fall in love with her again. Rosemary is a huge pain in the neck and is constantly throwing herself in Jack’s space, but….
One of the things that I absolutely love is the way Jack is always looking Elizabeth. It is enough to curl your toes. Even when Jack is not happy with her for the moment you can still see the love in his eyes.
The above gorgeous fan art is by Ardra Morse of Texas.
If you are like me and refuse to waste money paying for all the cable television channels, but you want to watch When Comes the Heart, you can stream it on Netflix and Amazon instant video.
