Life Is Good

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAHello everyone!  Life is good, and I hope that you can say the same.  Last Friday made one month since I started my new job at a local college.  I really love working there.  With each passing day I become even more happy about it.  Blessings are overflowing in extreme abundance and I am forever thankful.

My house redecorating is still moving along.

DSC_5566Do you recall this white double fireplace mantel in my front parlor room?  It is now in my kitchen.  About a week ago I went to Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  I was not planning on buying anything.  I was accompanying a friend, and she was the one looking for something to buy.  She spotted a beautiful mantel for only $90.  She couldn’t use it though because her house does not have any fireplaces, so she brought it to my attention.  It is truly gorgeous, and I did need it.  My house has six fireplaces in it (not that any of them work).   The original marble mantels were ripped out of it years before I bought the house.  I had only managed to purchase two mantels previously.  Now I have a third one.  It isn’t a double mantel like the white one is.  I do prefer double mantels, but it would not have been smart to pass up the one at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  If it was in an antique shop it would have costs a lot more than $90.

Since I started working again I do not have nearly as much free time anymore.  I am finding it challenging to blog as much as I used to.  It wasn’t an issue when I was working before at my old job.  For some reason now I am struggling to find the time to blog the way I really want to.  My life has changed so much.  I need to reorganize how I spend my free time now.

I did finish The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness.  I hope to find the time to review it this coming weekend.

Belle the movieI am hoping to find time to see the movie Belle this coming weekend.  Belle is a true story based on the woman in the painting below.

Dido_Elizabeth_BelleDido Elizabeth Belle was born to a wealthy white father and African mother.  In this painting she is seen with her half-sister.

The weather has been so beautiful this summer.  To me it is PERFECT!  I would love to know what you have been up to this summer so far.

    Hello Xenia,
So happy for you that you love your new job. And life is good to
you. And you bought the Mantle for the fireplace in the Kitchen.
Will you ever open and clean your fireplaces so they can help
keep you warm in the winter months?
You have such high ceiling. It must take a lot of money to heat
your Brown Stone. Well whatever you do. Fireplaces make the
room. Specially during the Holiday’s. Enjoy your great summer..

Yes, it can cost a lot of money to heat a house as big as mine since the utility companies are so into ripping people off. Years ago it wasn’t costly. My wood stove work fine though.

So glad you love your new job! That’s the way it should be.
Great find. Love antiques and all your lovely photos.
Change may be in the air for me, and I haven’t had much time or impulse to write.
Hope you can review Belle. I want to see it. Don’t give away anything in tBoL, though! I’ll read it….eventually.

Hi Trudy, I hope that you will share the news about your life changes. I have not felt the impulse to write lately either. I think it is from burn out after a year of writing papers for school. In addition to starting this new job and getting other areas of my life in order.

I will do a review of Belle after I see. No, I won’t give anything away when I review The Book of Life.

So happy to hear that you are enjoying your work and home life even though it means less blogging joy for your readers!

I’m knitting like crazy–designing and hopefully will be able to start selling patterns soon. The problem is that I have a busy job and children and a garden that is always needing my attention.

Just had some guests from Japan and that was a lot of fun, exhausting, but fun. They have a son the same age as my youngest and they both hit it off. I think we are going to try to do some exchange visits at least with the boys.

Both of my older boys have girlfriends which has been fun. It is nice to have women in the house for dinners and things and I am really pleased with the women they have chosen to be with. Both intelligent, kind, hard-working, and pretty. Best thing is the boys are so wonderful to them. Very thoughtful! That makes me really happy.

Getting ready to do some renovations to the boys’ bedrooms and bathroom. They are providing a lot of input about what they want but they are so busy with work and summer activities that I will probably have to wait until school starts again. Should be interesting.

I finished The Book of Life last night and will be curious to read your review. Harkness did not tie up all the loose threads which makes me wonder if there will be more books or perhaps some spin-off books featuring some of the other characters.

      Hello MomSense,

You are a very busy bee this summer. I know that you must feel very proud that you raised your boys to be so sweet and respectful towards women. Their girlfriends are very fortunate.

As for The Book of Life, I am not sure that I am satisfied with the ending. I listened to the audio book. I may decide to actually read it before I write a review.

When I finished the book I just felt like the story wasn’t really finished and that there were a lot of characters and things that were unanswered. I think there is enough outstanding material for at least some spin-off books with perhaps other characters taking the lead.

I don’t want to say to much and offer spoilers!

Hi Xenia, I’m glad to hear you are doing well! Life certainly sounds busy and fulfilling for you and you’re right, it would not have been smart to pass up that beautiful mantle!
