Hello beloved blog readers. I have not been posting muchover the past few days because I have been so into reading Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. After I finished reading A Discovery of Witches I decided to purchase the audio download of Shadow of NIght because I did not feel like reading another big book. Shadow of Night has 42 chapters. As I began listening to the audio version I discovered how even more intense it is than A Discovery of Witches. There are also so many characters that I found it a challenge keeping track of them all as I was listening to the story unfold. Matthew Clairmont is a VERY intense character. This is a man whose emotions and feelings run raw, especially for those he loves; namely Diana Bishop.
By the time I got to chapter 7 I decided that in order to really do this story justice I had to read the book. I usually order books online, but I did not want to wait for it. I wanted to keep the momentum going, so after work one day last week I headed to Barnes & Noble and purchased Shadow of Night in book form. I think reading the book has helped me to keep track of all the characters better. I have been reading the book every day and listening to the audio book. I wanted to finish reading the book last weekend, but as I said it is quite intense and I am also taking notes. While I am at work during the day I listen to the audio book and when I get home I read the book. I am on chapter 23 of the book and chapter 38 of the audio version. Each day I cannot wait to get home to get into the book, so I have not been so interested in writing blog posts. Since I had not posted anything since Sunday I wanted to make sure I wrote something yesterday. The only thing I could come up with was the silly post about me and Richard Armitage having a baby. If you missed it you can read it HERE. When I woke up this morning I couldn’t believe that I actually did that. It was fun, but silly.
Anyway, my complete involvement with the book, Shadow of Night, is the reason for my being so scarce on my blog these past few days. Right now as I am typing this post I cannot wait to finish so that I can get back to the book. I find the book quite incredible and now I really want to meet Deborah Harkness. I would love to sit down and have a talk with her. How did she come up with these books? Does she dabble in alchemical studies? Alchemy has always fascinated me and it is a part of my spiritual studies. I love it when Diana Bishop’s third eye opens. When I think of how intense these first two books are already, I cannot even imagine what the third book will be like when it is published.
Because of the All Souls Trilogy I went looking to purchase a copy of the Aurora Consurgens only to find out that it is hard to get and very expensive. I saw a copy of it online for $125.00. By hook or by crook I will get a copy and read it. Thomas Aquinas is thought to be its author, but no one knows for sure who wrote it is my understanding.
In Shadow of Night you do finally learn that Matthew Clairmont is 6’3″ which is very close to Richard Armitage’s height. As I continue to read the book, RA is always in my mind as Matthew. He is Matthew Clairmont as far as I am concerned. RA also has it in him to display all the raw intensity of the character. I read where a lot of fans liken Matthew Clairmont to Guy of Gisborne, but I don’t. Matthew Clairmont reminds me more of Lucas North. To me the only thing that Guy of Gisborne has in common with Matthew is the long hair and the fact that he is a medieval character. Matthew Clairmont is more intense like Lucas North, but even more so.
On the surface Matthew seems like a woman’s dream man, but he is so intense and possessive that I have to wonder if I could handle a man who loves me that much. I think it would be a problem that I would have to overcome, but more on that at another time.
Well,my home-made vegan baked ziti is done, so off I go to eat and curl up in bed with Shadow of Night. Hopefully I will be finished reading it by Sunday and I will write a review. I promise no spoilers.
