Gargoyles…Ugh!

grotesques-gargoyles-01Do you like gargoyles?  I don’t.  I can’t stand them.  Gargoyles look frightening to me.   I see them a lot when I visit mansions from the Gilded Age.  According to Wikipedia, gargoyles are meant to carry rainwater away from buildings to prevent corrosion.  I always thought they were purely decorative; especially since you also see gargoyles in gardens.  Gargoyles can also be found on government buildings, universities, libraries, museums and old medieval buildings.  I have a stone statue of Kwan Yin in my garden.  I would never add any gargoyles.  Many of them look sinister.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThere are gargoyles that look much more grotesque and frightening than the ones I included in this post.

Would you buy a gargoyle for your garden?
