Stars of You Tube

youtube127Unless you are living under a rock, you know that You Tube has helped to vastly change how people communicate and share information.  You Tube was founded in 2005 by three former employees of PayPal.  In 2006, Google purchased You Tube for 1.65 billion dollars.

When You Tube first launched I did not pay much attention to it.  It was not until 2009 when I started looking through it for videos by black women who kept their hair in its natural state and did not put chemicals in it to alter our naturally coily and curly hair.  I was hungry for product reviews and hair styling tutorials.  In the process I also started watching make up tutorials.  Many of the people making You Tube videos brought you into their homes and would share a little bit more of themselves.  A lot of them began to have huge followings.  As the vlog author became more comfortable making videos the quality improved.  Many were moving away from webcams to point and shoot digital cameras and even DSLR cameras.  You Tube is the vehicle that many people throughout the world used to share what they are passionate about.  If it was not for You Tube we would not have been able to see such talent and creativity.  I decided to share You Tube channels that I still enjoy watching.   I consider these You Tube channels exceptional.  The quality of their videos is outstanding on so many levels.  Their You Tube videos have spawned careers for many of them and attracted the attention of sponsors.

There are too many You Tube channels to share in one blog post, so I am going to have to break them up into several posts.  For this one I am going to start with Pixiwoo.  The You Tube channel Pixiwoo was started by Samantha Chapman in 2008.  Shortly afterwards Samantha’s sister Nicola joined her on the channel.  The sisters are known as Nic and Sam.  The sisters provide hair and makeup tutorials via Pixiwoo.  Their videos are so professional and are quite engaging.  I never get tired of watching their tutorials.  The number of followers for Pixiwoo has exploded and gets literally hundreds of thousands of views daily.  Samantha has a line of makeup brushes that are great quality, but affordable called Real Techniques.   The sisters have shared much of their lives outside of makeup and hair as well.  When Nic got married the video was shared with all of us on You Tube.  Samantha and Nicola were born and raised in England and is where they currently live.

Sam and Nic once in a blue moon will do a makeup tutorial on a woman of color, but it doesn’t happen as often as I would like.  I still enjoy watching all of their tutorials and there  are African-American makeup artists who are fans of Pixiwoo and incorporate many of their techniques.

The above tutorial was obviously done just after Kim Kardashian’s short-lived marriage.  It is fun and entertaining watching Nicola transform herself.
