Can Richard Armitage Surpass Thorin Oakenshield?

Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakensheild

If you have been keeping up with Richard Armitage you know that The Hobbit was a favorite book of his growing up.  I read the book last year, so I can understand why RA loved The Hobbit as a child.  The Hobbit book would enchant any child.  RA is a fan of Tolkien’s books, so it makes sense that appearing in The Hobbit meant everything in the world to him.  Richard has said that ….” If this is the last piece of work I ever do, I’ll be happy.”

There is no doubt that Richard did an awesome job in The Hobbit, but I don’t see Thorin Oakenshield as Richard’s crowning achievement as an actor.  The Hobbit may turn out to be the most expensive epic production Richard has done, but I see Richard surpassing the character of Thorin as an actor.

Someone in the reading audience mentioned to me that there is a movement in support of Richard Armitage playing Matthew Clairmomt, who is a character in a book by Deborah Harkness titled A Discovery of Witches.   Click on Armitage4Clairmont and Armitage4Clairmont on Facebook for more details.   Thank you Sheila for providing the links.  I have not read this book yet, but I will check it out.

I just have a feeling that Richard is going to be the next Hugh Jackman.  HA!  You know that I had to get Jack the Man’s name in this post somehow.

Seriously, though I feel in my gut that Richard will surpass The Hobbit  as his shining achievement and I look forward to seeing how he does it.

Xenia- I love all your articles on Richard Armitage. He will go far. After the Hobbit.
He still young. And he will always find work in movies with his talent. Now it has to do more movies or plays in USA.

I’m with you. He’s just started his career! He’s going to blow the socks off people with something else as well. I can’t wait to see what!

Richard has actually been acting for a very long time, but until he appeared in North & South he was a struggling actor. The Hobbit put Richard in the worldwide limelight for the first time. Richard’s acting is superb in the Hobbit, but to me the movie is mostly a visual experience that relies heavily on the technology used to make it a spectacular movie. I can see Richard giving a superb performance in a movie that does not use any of that technology and leaving the audience in awe of his talent.
